WeWard is a free walking rewards app (“Make walking a more rewarding part of your life”) that “wants to get more people walking the world over, by any means necessary.” It was founded in 2019 and has more than 20 million users worldwide.
WeWard is a free ‘get paid to walk’ app that allows users to earn gift cards, cash and sweepstakes entries by walking. Users can also earn rewards by making purchases from brands that have partnered with WeWard, and by playing games and taking surveys.
WeWard has more than 20 million users around the world, mainly in the United States, France, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Germany and Japan. In late February 2025, tennis legend Venus Williams joined WeWard as both an ambassador and investor.
Yes. WeWard is a legitimate app. As of March 2025, WeWard has a 4.8 out of 5 star rating in Apple’s App store and a 3.8 out of 5 stars rating on Google Play.
According to the app’s U.S. Privacy Policy the WeWard app is “not intended for use by anyone under 18 years of age.”
The WeWard app is free to download and use. It rewards users with points (“Wards”) that are accumulated by walking, making in-app purchases, playing games and taking surveys. Wards can be redeemed for cash or gift cards, or can be donated to charity.
The main way to earn points (“Wards”) with the WeWard app is to walk and “convert your steps” on a daily basis. Users have until midnight to hit the orange “convert my steps” button on the Activity page in the app—and track their progress.
There are also at least five other ways to accumulate Wards:
– Make purchases from one of the brands that has partnered with WeWard.
– Play games (downloaded via WeWard’s partner’s platform).
– Take in-app surveys.
– Earn bonuses for converting steps within certain time frames—before 7 am, for instance.
Pro Tip: Don’t forget to convert your steps every day; if you’re not in the habit of doing so, you can enable the step reminder notification.

As of this writing, there are four ways that WeWard counts steps; select one by clicking on the cogwheel in the upper-right corner of the screen in the app.
According to WeWard:
Google Fit is the recommended choice for Android users
Apple Health is the best choice for iPhone or Apple Watch
WeWard also has its own proprietary step counter called WeWard Sense. Or you can sync your WeWard account with Fitbit to count only Fitbit-tracked steps.
The step counter works even when you are offline. But you must be online to “convert your steps” into Wards.
It’s difficult to say, because there is no direct currency conversion for a Ward. The rewards offered by WeWard change over time and vary from country to country.
Also, the WeWard app operates a system of levels and thresholds in which you can earn higher levels of Wards—and rewards—based on how much you walk and use the app. At each level, you will encounter thresholds that change and adapt based on your progress in the app, and which you need to reach in order to earn Wards.
In other words, you can be promoted to a higher level (or go down to a lower level), not unlike the system of promotion and relegation utilized by international football leagues. The details of WeWard’s system of leveling up are explained here.
To unlock a threshold and receive your reward in Wards, you must tap the “convert my steps” button. You can earn up to 25 Wards per day by converting your steps, although the daily limit of Wards that can be obtained by walking may increase.
All the current ways to redeem Wards are found on WeWard’s Redeem page. The most popular reward options are cash (which can be transferred via PayPal or Venmo) and gift cards.
You can also use Wards on sweepstakes entries, to get discounts on select products, or you can donate Wards to charity.
It’s worth downloading WeWard and giving it a try, especially if you do a lot of walking on a daily basis. It’s an easy way to earn a little extra income, as all you need to do is walk and “convert your steps” before midnight each day.
That said, most casual users will likely earn less than $100 a year with WeWard, putting it in line with many other get paid to walk apps. Especially dedicated WeWard users—those who also play games, take surveys, and purchase from the brands featured in the app—can earn much more. The free product samples offered in-app may also be of interest.
If your use of the WeWard app is limited to walking and converting your steps, you probably won’t earn more than $100-$125 per year in cash and/or gift cards. But if you also play games, take surveys, and purchase from the brands featured in the app, earning potential is much higher.
To maximize the amount of money you earn by walking, download and use multiple ‘get paid to walk’ apps simultaneously. If you like WeWard, consider using GeoSmile, Cashwalk, Evidation and Million Steps, too.
