FotoPay™ is a brand-new app that launched in a dozen markets in the United States on February 13, 2025. Using FotoPay, consumers earn cash taking photos of store displays and drinks & meals (in supermarkets, convenience stores, restaurants and fast-food outlets).
FotoPay can best be described as a store/brand auditing app. It enables users (“Fotographers”) to use their smartphones to provide “real-time visual insights” to companies looking to see how their products and promotions appear to consumers. That is, users earn money taking pictures of products (store displays, served drinks & meals, etc.) as they appear in the real-world. In return, users are compensated for the intelligence they provide with cash payments.
Yes. FotoPay was developed by the award-winning mystery shopping company, A Closer Look, which is based in the Atlanta metropolitan area and has been in business for more than 25 years.
FotoPay has a 4.2 out of 5 star rating in the App Store. It launched on February 13, 2025.
As of this writing, the FotoPay app offers gigs in at least 12 major metropolitan areas in the United States:
- Atlanta
- New York
- Dallas
- Orlando
- Chicago
- Houston
- San Francisco
- Los Angeles
- Phoenix
- Detroit
- Nashville

Users may also find gigs in smaller markets, like Huntsville, Alabama, for example.

Click on the search icon at the bottom-left of the home screen to see the available jobs. You can sort the gigs by brand and distance, and you can see jobs as far as 100 miles away (which can be helpful if you are traveling).
In the list of available jobs, you see the name of the store/brand, the address, the distance from your location, and the compensation offered.
You can also enable mobile notifications to be alerted to nearby jobs at participating businesses. Of course, you need to have location services enabled to find gigs based on your available location (and to ensure you are on-site when you take and submit the requested photo).
Featured gigs are FotoPay jobs that are selected to appear on the home screen. Typically, these jobs are either new, popular, or available for a limited time.
To date, the jobs appearing in FotoPay involve no more than taking a single photo, so they can take less than a minute to complete.
To date, there are three different kinds of jobs in the FotoPay app.
1. Order a specific entrée, sandwich or drink at a particular eatery or fast-food restaurant and submit a picture of said menu item before you begin eating. By earning $2 from the photo, you are offsetting some of the cost of your purchase—a meal or drink you might be buying anyway.
2. Take a picture of a particular display or shelf section in a store. A hypothetical example would be: Take a photo of the four-foot section where (brand) of soup is shelved.
3. Take a selfie in front of a particular store or eatery.
Yes. The businesses featured in the app can set specific intervals or a maximum number of gigs you can complete for the brand/business in your area.
All the jobs we have seen to date require no more than a single photo and pay $2.

The FotoPay app launched on February, 13, 2025, so it’s too early to assess earning potential.
But on day one, hundreds of jobs were available all over the Nashville metropolitan area at upwards of 10 different restaurant/fast food chains, plus one major supermarket chain. And opportunities involving additional brands have been added in the weeks since.
FotoPay was developed by A Closer Look, a mystery shopping company. But you don’t need to remain undercover to do the jobs in FotoPay, so it’s not considered a mystery shopping app. Still, it makes sense to take FotoPay photos as discreetly as possible, especially if you are in a retail store.
No. At this time there isn’t an option to refer friends and family members.
Yes, there are other store/brand auditing tools that you may want to consider. Examples include Field Agent, Observa, Mobee, BeMyEye and Gigwalk. Of these, Field Agent offers the highest earning potential. Field Agent’s top earner last year got paid $23,803.20.
Simply download the app from fotopayarmy.com. Or go directly to the App Store or Google Play.
