How to Save, Earn Money at Kroger

Mystery shopping and store/brand auditing apps allow you to earn cash while shopping at Kroger

Last updated on June 13th, 2025 at 06:44 pm

There are a dizzying number of ways to both save & earn money while shopping at Kroger. All Good Points is here to help you quickly review the possibilities—to get you saving & earning as much as possible.

The saving/earning opportunities can be grouped into 3 buckets:
1. Use Kroger’s proprietary tools (the Kroger app, loyalty card, fuel points program, etc.) to SAVE money at Kroger.
2. Use digital couponing apps, barcode/receipt scanning apps and payment apps to SAVE money and earn cash back at Kroger
3. Use mystery shopping and store/brand auditing apps to EARN money at Kroger.

SAVING MONEY AT KROGER
Start with the Kroger Plus Shopper’s Card and the Kroger app, which give you the opportunity to use Kroger digital coupons and fuel points, the latter of which help save money on gas at Kroger Fuel Centers and partner gas stations.

The Kroger Plus Shopper’s Card
The Kroger Plus Shopper’s Card is just what it sounds like, a physical loyalty card with a 12-digit number and a bar code on the back. It opens the door to collecting fuel points and getting discounts on purchases. You may be able to get an employee to give you one without providing any personal information.

That’s relevant insofar as Kroger collects extensive data on customers for which it has personal information.  As noted by Consumer Reports in May 2025, Kroger has an “in-house data unit—called 84.51°, which refers to the longitude and latitude coordinates of its Cincinnati headquarters—that is tasked with collecting and analyzing shopper data to create personalized discounts….”  this data is frequently sold to other companies, including Soda Health, a healthcare tech company that works with health insurers.

Naturally, using the Kroger app will require disclosing personal information to the company, which is a double-edged sword, as Kroger frequently offers personalized coupons and discounts to loyalty members, but at the expense of one’s privacy. That said, there are many ways to earn and save money at Kroger that can be used without being enrolled in the loyalty program or using Kroger’s proprietary cards and tools. Before we get to those, let’s cover more of what Kroger has to offer.

Kroger Fuel Points
One of the most popular features of the Kroger loyalty program is its fuel points rewards program. For every 100 Kroger Fuel Points redeemed, you save 10 cents per gallon at Kroger Fuel Centers (as well as partner gas stations, including participating Shell stations).

5 Ways to Earn Kroger Fuel Points
1. When you shop and use your Shopper’s Card (or digital account), you earn 1 point for every $1 spent at Kroger
2. Earn 2x fuel points if you are a member of Kroger Boost
3. Earn 25 points for every qualifying prescription filled at a Kroger Pharmacy
4. Earn 2x fuel points when you purchase gift cards at Kroger (or 4x points via available digital coupons)
5. Earn 4x fuel points on groceries using available digital coupons (like the 4x Fuel Points Friday digital coupon)

Kroger Boost Membership Program
Kroger Boost is a subscription program best-suited for customers who want to maximize their use of the Kroger fuel points program and have groceries delivered by Kroger (or Instacart).

There are two tiers to the Boost program.
1. Boost Essential is $69 a year (or $8.99 a month)
2. Boost is $99 a year (or $12.99 a month)

Both tiers of the program offer 2x fuel points for every $1 spent on groceries; Essential provides for free next-day delivery of orders, while the top tier includes free same-day delivery of orders, as well as discounted ‘express’ delivery.

The Kroger Rewards Elite MasterCard®
The last Kroger program worth mentioning is the Kroger Rewards Elite Mastercard, a no annual fee, variable APR credit card.

As of this writing, benefits include:
– Up to 5% cash back on Kroger Pay (and eligible net mobile wallet purchases)
– 2% cash back on purchases made in Kroger stores
– 1% cash back on purchases made outside Kroger stores

Signup offers typically include:
– A statement credit if you spend a certain amount within 90 days after account opening.
– A 0% Intro APR for a certain period of time on purchases and balance transfers.

EARNING CASH, GIFT CARDS AT KROGER
To maximize your savings and earn lots of cash back, stack the use of the following apps and tools on top of what you save with Kroger’s proprietary tools.

Use Digital Couponing Apps (like Ibotta)

Naturally, you aren’t limited to Kroger’s digital coupons and in-store discounts when shopping at Kroger. Also strongly consider using Ibotta, a popular digital couponing app that allows you to earn cash back on select grocery purchases, not to mention up to 2% cash back when shop at Kroger.com and 1% cash back on Kroger gift cards.

You may also find value in using a niche cash back app like Makeena, which offers the chance to save on healthy, organic and eco-friendly food purchases. For example, Makeena offers cash back on Vital Farms eggs, as well as other pasture-raised and free range eggs. To learn more, check out our Makeena FAQ page.

You may find value in the cash back offers at Checkout 51, too.

Use Shopkick (and other Barcode Scanning Tools)
Shopkick is an easy way to earn free gift cards while shopping for groceries. It’s an app that allows you to earn points by scanning the bar codes of select products, with point bonuses for purchasing those same products. Those points can then be redeemed for free gift cards.

As of this writing, this writer has earned more than $2,500 in free gift cards using Shopkick, which is especially easy at Kroger, as you don’t even need to physically pick up any product. Just scan the bar code on the shelf tag and you’re done.

You might also be able to earn extra points by scanning the same product in multiple apps. For example, the get paid to walk app Steps Money (formerly Million Steps), allows you to earn points by scanning select products in-store.

Use Fetch (and other Receipt Scanning Apps)
Select food/drink purchases at Kroger may qualify for bonus points in Fetch, a free app that allows users to earn gift cards by submitting grocery receipts. To learn more, visit AGP’s Fetch FAQ page.

You can also submit your Kroger receipts to many other receipt scanning apps, including CoinOut, ReceiptPal, Receipt Hog and ReceiptJar.

Swagbucks and MyPoints are two other potentially lucrative options (assuming you take advantage of their bonus offers).

HOW TO PAY AT KROGER
How you pay your bill at Kroger is also worth considering, especially if you spend hundreds of dollars on each trip to the store. Options include Kroger Pay, as well as several payment apps.

1. Kroger Pay:
To pay with Kroger Pay, open the Kroger app, navigate to the Kroger Pay tab and select “Use at the Register.” This will create a PIN protected, QR code that you scan at checkout. Your Kroger Shopper’s Card number and any activated digital coupons will be automatically processed, as will your preferred credit or debit card.

It arguably only makes sense to use Kroger Pay if you have the Kroger Rewards World Elite Mastercard®, which allows you to earn up to 5% cash back on Kroger Pay and eligible net mobile wallet purchases. Otherwise, consider one of the 2 payment apps listed immediately below.

2. Pay with Fluz
Earn at least 1.5% cash back (and up to 25% cash back) instantly when you pay at Kroger using Fluz, a cash back payment app. To use Fluz at Kroger you must create a gift card worth at least $30 but no more than $500; the gift card does not need to be used all at once. When you pay this way, you earn cash back with Fluz, plus any rewards offered by the credit card you provide to Fluz (plus any Kroger-related rewards).

Want to sign up with Fluz? You’ll get a free $5 and All Good Points will get $5 if you use referral code ALLGOOD at signup and spend at least $15 in the app.

3. Pay with Raise

Earn 0.5% cash back instantly when you pay at Kroger using Raise, a free payment app that allows you to earn instant cash back on purchases made at more than 150 retailers, including Kroger. When you pay this way, you earn cash back with Raise, plus any rewards offered by the credit card you provide to Raise (plus any Kroger-related rewards).

To use the Raise app at Kroger you must spend at least $10 but no more than $500. To learn more about this very valuable payment app, check out AGP’s Raise FAQ page.

EARNING MONEY WHILE SHOPPING AT KROGER
There are numerous ways to earn cash (and oftentimes get reimbursed for grocery purchases) when shopping at Kroger.

Mystery Shopping at Kroger
There are extensive opportunities available to perform mystery/secret shops at Kroger stores, offered by multiple mystery shopping companies, including Second to None. Kroger mystery shoppers work as independent contractors and work is made available on an assignment-by-assignment basis. Platforms like PrestoShopper and GigSpot may be good forums to find mystery shopping opportunities at Kroger.

Note: Kroger will never contact a shopper directly with an offer to secret shop their stores; that’s indicative of a scam.

Use Store/Brand Auditing Apps (like Field Agent)
Yet another way to earn cash while visiting Kroger stores is to use apps like Field Agent, which pays cash for doing in-store photo audits and other tasks for major brands and retailers. Field Agent frequently has micro jobs available in Kroger stores; other auditing apps worth checking when visiting Kroger include: Observa, BeMyEye and Mobee.

Last but not least, consider checking FotoPay (launched in 2025), which features single-photo, $2 jobs, and has been known to feature opportunities at Kroger.

Don’t yet have FotoPay? Download it here. Or learn more about the app on our FotoPay FAQ page. We even have an interview with Alison Moshkelani of A Closer Look, one of the executives who helped create FotoPay.
