Field Agent is a free app that can be used to earn cash while shopping. Field Agent users (“agents”) gather information for brands and retailers by taking photos, sharing opinions, and completing other in-store tasks. The information helps client companies deliver the best products and experiences to their customers.
Field Agent can best be described as a mystery shopping-type crowdsourcing app, one that enables consumers to use their smartphones to deliver information to companies looking for data about their products and services. In return, users are compensated for the intelligence they provide via cash payments.
Yes. Field Agent is a legit app. As of February 2025 it has a 4.7 out of 5 stars rating in the Apple App Store, and a 3.2 out of 5 stars rating in Google Play.
Field Agent was conceived in 2009, founded in 2010 and is based in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
As of this writing, Field Agent works in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Mexico, South Africa, Spain and Ecuador.
After you have downloaded the Field Agent app, review the jobs available in your geographic area. To accept a job, click on the job listing and click the orange “Accept” button at the bottom of the job description. Then complete the job—submitting any required photos and information—inside the app. There is a time limit for completing each individual Field Agent job (typically 4 hours). If you fail to complete the job within the specified time period, you lose your reservation and the job returns to the pool of available opportunities.
After a job is approved, your earnings will display on the Earnings page in the app. You can also check the status of all jobs via the Earnings page.
Pro Tip: After you download the Field Agent app, click on the hamburger at the top right and tweak the settings that let you choose how the jobs display for you:
At All Good Points, we suggest sorting jobs by Distance. You can tweak the distance setting when you get a feel for the app and decide how far you are willing to go to complete Field Agent jobs.
Note: Field Agent works nationwide, but if you do jobs that are more than 200 miles apart in a single day, the app will lock you out and you’ll need to contact Support to have your account re-activated.
Field Agent jobs available in your geographic area appear in the app, and you have the opportunity to reserve them and complete them within a specified time limit. The time limit can be as little as one hour or as long as five days, though the most common time limit is 4 hours.
In a list of available jobs, you see the name of the store, the address, and how far the job is from your location.

A $1 job might take less than a minute, but some of the more intensive jobs can take 20 minutes or so to complete. But you can reserve multiple jobs at the same time, and so if you see five different jobs available at the same store, you may want to try to reserve all five and do them during the same visit. That’s the most efficient way to use the Field Agent app.
There are at least 10 different types of opportunities available to Field Agent users. Most of the jobs require you to go to stores or retail locations to take photos and answer questions.
1. Photo Audits involve taking photos and collecting information about in-store products, prices and displays.
2. Surveys ask users to answer questions about their shopping behaviors and experiences.
3. Ratings and Reviews ask users to buy a product, try it, and post a review of said product online.
4. Buy & Try jobs ask users to buy a product, try it, and then answer questions about their experience with the product in question.
5. Eye Spy jobs offer the opportunity to collect details and UPC codes about products available in stores.
6. Scavenger Hunts ask agents to find specific products and then answer questions/take pictures of those products and their placement in stores.
From our experience, Scavenger Hunts are, by far, the most difficult Field Agent jobs to complete because the product descriptions offered by Field Agent aren’t necessarily descriptive enough to help you find the specific product. Also, it’s usually very difficult to find the exact product/size in question. Most importantly, you need to check the UPC code on the packaging of the item you are looking for; if the UPC code is not an exact match, you don’t have the right item.
7. Mystery Shops ask agents to interact with one or more associates at a store or retail location and report on their experiences.
8. Real Estate Audits involve taking a series of exterior photos of real estate at a specified address.
9. Ticket Jobs are jobs that do not provide any financial compensation; successfully completing one of these jobs earns you a ticket into the company’s monthly cash drawing, in which the randomly chosen winner receives up to $500 (with the dollar amount determined by how many ticket jobs that user has completed in the course of a month).
A typical ticket job might ask you about your living situation or kitchen appliances or your shopping habits, to name but three examples. It’s worth completing ticket jobs, as they can sometimes lead to additional paid opportunities, as well as ‘Just For You!’ opportunities.
10. ‘Just For You’ Jobs are offered to you only. That is, you are not competing with other Agents to reserve the job(s) before others do.
Field Agent’s location-specific jobs typically pay between $1 and $20. The pay isn’t necessarily fixed; that is, if the company is having trouble finding an Agent to complete a particular job the compensation might rise over time. For example, a Field Agent job offering might start at, say, $6.50, but then rise to $7.50, $10, $12, $15 and then $20 if no one reserves and completes the job in the time frame hoped for by the company.
While $3 or $5 or $7.50 might not sound like much, a job—or doing multiple Field Agent jobs offered at the same store—might take just a few minutes at a store you were visiting anyway. And Field Agent job offerings tend to be plentiful, especially in major metropolitan areas that are home to a lot of Big Box stores, supermarkets, drug stores and convenience stores.
Before you can “Cash Out” the money you have earned with Field Agent, you need to link a bank account to the app—and then verify that bank account. The process can be completed in-app or online. Detailed instructions can be found within Field Agent’s FAQ pages at fieldagent.net.
After you have completed a job, your work is reviewed—and if your work accepted—cash is credited to your account. Typically your work is reviewed within 24-48 hours. You can “cash out” (direct deposit to your bank account) at any time, provided your balance is at least $3.
By shopping app standards, earning potential is large. It’s not uncommon for a Field Agent user to earn thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars a year. The top earning Agent in 2024 earned $23,803.20 using the app, according to the company.
Meanwhile, this reviewer earned $2,939.30 with Field Agent in 2024, and my lifetime earnings (since August 2018) currently stand at $28,636.27.
Field Agent is not required to report your income to the IRS if you earn less than $600 per year. And Field Agent does not initially require you to fill out a W-9. But if you approach $500 in earnings in a year, Field Agent will add a “Required” job opportunity to your “Find Jobs” display (“We need you to fill out a W-9”). At that point you will receive an e-mail from the company, through which you submit your 1099 electronically.
If you reach the threshold of $550 in earnings before filing your 1099, Field Agent will stop showing you available jobs until you submit a W-9 and it is processed by the company. You need to submit a new W-9 to Field Agent every year.

You will receive an email with “job submission” in the subject line and a message telling you that Field Agent is unable to approve your submission—and why. Of course, you don’t get paid, so the expected payment is not added to your account balance.
If you’d like to appeal Field Agent’s decision to reject your work by providing additional information, you can do so via the email address provided at the bottom of the rejection email There are probably very few instances where it’s worth your time to appeal a rejection.
Instead, it’s best to try to address any potential issues on the front end. If completing a job is in any way a challenge, you’ll want to highlight the circumstances for Field Agent when you submit the job. (The last question before you hit the ‘submit’ button always gives you an opportunity to explain your experience or relate any challenges.) If you do a good job relating any difficulties you had, it maximizes the chance that your job will be approved.
To cite an extreme example, this Agent once accepted a job auditing the menu at a fast-food restaurant. When I arrived at the location, I discovered that the restaurant had burned to the ground. So I took a photo of what remained of the building and explained the circumstances. My “work” was accepted.
In the Support section of its web site, Field Agent notes that the majority of its jobs are “meant to be mystery shops.” It goes on to say that “if you are approached by an employee while doing a job, it is really up to you what to do. You could tell [the employee] that you are taking photos of a product to get a friend or family member’s opinion…. But if they ask you to stop, then you should comply politely. If you are ever confronted by a store employee, please represent yourself and Field Agent well by being respectful and polite.”
Pro Tip: Act naturally when completing Field Agent jobs, much like you normally would when shopping in a store. But try to take photos as discreetly as possible. For instance, if a store employee is in the aisle with you, you might want to wait for them to leave before snapping photos, so as not to attract more attention than necessary.
Yes, you can send your referral code (found on the Invite page in the app) to friends via text or email. If a friend accepts your invite, you earn 10% of each approved job they complete, up to $10 per invited friend.
